Carters Steam Fair in Reading, Berks

Gorgeous Revellers in Reading,

The weather in Reading is beautiful and so are you. It’s a shame that Zippos circus must take down its tent in Reading, but let the good times continue with Liam Gallagher’s 1960s exhibit at Reading Town Museum and Carters Steam Fair in Reading later this month.

Carters Steam promises traction engine rallies and steam rally events in the heart of Berkshire. This is one of those traveling fun fairs featuring nothing less than a grand palace of entertainment, wall of death, box trucks and living wagons. Read the rest of this entry

Have you been enjoying all the sunshine and fun in Reading?

I do hope so. The circus is in Reading for one more day. Plus, Reading Museum has a totally psychedelic exhibition on 1960s life in Reading. ‘Ready, Steady, Go!’ is at John Madejski Art Gallery until October 9.

Rumour has it that Liam Gallagher was at Reading Museum representing the ex-Oasis singer’s 1960s-style mod fashion label, Pretty Green. I cannot 100% verify this, but Pretty Green clothes are one of the exhibit’s sponsors. Liam, if you are reading this, please leave a comment below and let us know what you think of Reading. We’d love to get some more Liam love before your groovy band Beady Eye plays at Reading Festival this summer! Read the rest of this entry

The circus is in Reading!Zippos Circus in Reading And if you enjoy human contortions and limboing under fire — and what kind of Reveller would not? — then Reading’s circus is just for you.

I went along to Zippos Circus in Reading on its opening night. To be honest, I didn’t have particularly high expectations — certainly not half as high as the brilliant trapeeze artists who dared, dangled and dazzled.

Going off the Zippos Circus posters plastered about town, I thought it would be quite cheesy, and that’s really why I hopped along to Hills Meadow, George Street.

As it turns out, the show was fantastic (no cheese, unfortunately, although a good amount of goo sloshed about). I don’t want to plop too many circus spoilers here, for those of you who may still go along any night from now until April 12, so I’ll just hint at the delights of a circus event in Berkshire (disclaimer: this has nothing to do with Reading Borough Council). Circus in Reading

Lately, dare I admit it, I have gotten a wee tad fed up with things. One, it apparently takes up to 3 months to remove one’s details from The Smithsonian’s junk mail list. (Yay for the folk who keep their 19th Century mission as 19th Century as possible!) Two, slow walkers. (This is Iain’s contribution, and I agree!) We are fast-paced folk, we who dash along the Oxford Road, chasing after the wonderful priority that is daily stress!

Okay. Now that I have gotten all that nonsense out of my system, allow me to present some good news: Read the rest of this entry
